In oktober 1973, in 2023 exact 50 jaar geleden, opende CC Westrand de deuren. Ter ere van het jubileum heeft de werkgroep Westrand 2023 me gevraagd om 3 illustraties te maken van de speelruimte die architect Alfons Hoppenbrouwers heeft gecreëerd. De eerste illustratie toont de ruimte zoals ze conceptueel door Hoppenbrouwers in de originele plannen was getekend met de verschillende speelelementen. De tweede illustratie toont hoe de ruimte uiteindelijk midden jaren 70 er uitzag kort na de oplevering. De derde illustratie tenslotte toont de lege ruimte zoals ze er op het heden uitziet en biedt de mogelijkheid aan de toeschouwer om zelf suggesties te doen.

In October 1973, in 2023 exactly 50 years ago, CC Westrand opened its doors. In honor of the anniversary, the Westrand 2023 Task force asked me to make 3 illustrations of the concrete playground that architect Alfons Hoppenbrouwers created. The first illustration shows the space as it was conceptually drawn by Hoppenbrouwers in the original plans with the various play elements. The second illustration shows what the space ultimately looked like shortly after completion in the mid-1970s. Finally, the third illustration shows the empty space as it looks today and offers the viewer the opportunity to make their own suggestions.
